Bernard E. Trainor (born September 2, 1928) is a retired Marine Corps lieutenant general. At one time Gen. Trainor was Chief of Operations for the U.S. Marine Corps and a member of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff. At present Gen. Trainor is a military analyst for NBC. He worked for The New York Times as chief military correspondent from 1986 to 1990 and at Harvard 's John F.
