Colenso (known in Zulu as eSkipeni - Place of the Boat) is a town in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It is located on the southern bank of the Tugela River. The original settlement was contained within a loop on the river, but it subsequently expanded southwards and eastwards. It lies on the main Durban - Johannesburg railway line some 190 km north-west of Durban and 140 km south of the KwaZulu-Natal - Gauteng provincial border.

The Battle of Colenso is the third and final of the battles fought during the Black Week of the Boer War. It was fought between British and Boer forces at Colenso, South Africa on 15 December 1899 as part of the Second Boer War. Inadequate preparation and reconnaissance and uninspired leadership led to a heavy, and in some respects humiliating, British defeat.
